The Gaolyard Studios were opened in 1999 by the potter John Bedding on the site of St Ives Town Gaol. The studios are all self-contained and include basic equipment such as; wheels, ware boards, and weighing scales. Their are both electric and gas kilns which are shared, also the kiln room provides a meeting place for the potters to exchange ideas and share thoughts.
Although it is expected that residents stay for periods of up to two years, there is no restriction on the length of stay.
The public are not allowed access to the studios, but there is a small show room run by the residents which is open most times.
